Creating a new international look for the Chinese Design Award
This was Bito’s first time working as visual coordinator for a large-scale ceremony. Since 2014, the Golden Pin Design Award has positioned itself as “the top design award in the global Chinese market” for designers all around the world, thus all output must be tailored specifically to meet the standards of the brand.
In order for the designers to portray human behavior, the concept used golden balls to replace the word “people” in the Chinese cultural concept of “heaven, earth, and people,” forming “heaven, earth” instead.
The opening video employed black, white, and gold as the main colors. The golden ball traveled through the heavens and the earth, creating an image of a contemporary, international ceremony that evoked nobility, and this was extended into the opens used for the ceremony’s nominations and winners. We even changed the font for the Golden Pin Awards from calligraphy into a form that was simple and easy to recognize. The videos for final judging utilized camera techniques that were sharper and more diverse in order to convey the views and insights of the judging team. The unique invitations echoed the theme and integrated fonts, featuring a three-dimensional pinball design with the four golden balls representing the award categories and symbolizing the collisions in the designers’ pursuit of inspiration.
