Visualizing the sound and text of dissing
For the past ten years, the Vision Get Wild Award has provided students majoring in design and animation in southern Taiwan a platform in the form of a university-industry collaboration, allowing students to display their graduation projects and gain visibility from the industry.
We created this year’s key visual and film through a tenth-anniversary manifesto closely aligned with the brand.
We adopted #GetWildWithVisionGetWild as the key concept. “Get wild” was the keyword that Vision Get Wild utilized to encourage students to bring out and compete with their best work. It was also their most evolutionary keyword in the past decade in terms of illustrating their growing scale, complexity, features, and level of influence. Aside from serving as a promotional point of memory, the concept also highlighted the bold and enthusiastic attitude of the organizer in the southern part of Taiwan.
The font designs in the key visual featured chat bubbles to express the various tones used when dissing. For example, the sharp corners jutting out of the edge of “Eat My Dust” conveyed the thrill of raising a racket, and the roughness of “Fight Me Then” suggested a daring momentum with no fear of the opponent’s challenge. The Chinese fonts and Western designs collided boldly, and the bright large color blocks featured both solid and special colors. These colors were especially striking, with different colors corresponding to the different groups participating in the competition.
The opening film outlined the design process, with the pressure from the eyes of the opponents and the breaking through of the self continuously competing and dissing each other in the mind as two opposing forces. Throughout the process, the moves from both sides varied in style, with the unprecedented use of dynamic Traditional Chinese characters expressing the variation and tension in the tone of dissing an opponent.
