Experience

Constructing the Golden Horse brand’s world view

Bito created a key visual for the Golden Horse that extended into a whole series of worldviews, including 23 nominations, opens and bumpers, lower thirds, BUG, transitions, mortises, and stage background dynamics.

Closely following this year’s theme of “Refocusing,” the intertwining of realism and fantasy and micro and macro perspectives spoke of how all things operate just like organisms under the focal length.

With “experimental creation” as a guide, we were able to present the process of refocusing. The nomination VCR utilized everyday objects and physics to create video experiments, allowing seemingly organic images to walk the line between the real and the virtual. The sound design turned to a number of film-related fields as well as ambient sounds as its theme, blending Chinese dialects within its clarity and ambiguity. Like the sound of gongs and drums right before a Taiwanese opera begins, or the director’s “rolling” or “action” call, an element of storytelling was added. Motion text cards and open-frame mirrors used glass to convey the transition from ambiguity to clarity, and when paired with geometric figures, presented the imagery of film frames. Meanwhile, the stage created a multi-faceted structure, taking advantage of the different materials and lighting to enhance the three-dimensional perception, thus designing a three-dimensional space that shared the same world view as the nomination VCR.
